Make a Light Box Makers Workshop
7th June 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Muslamic Makers are really excited to be working with the University of Salford’s new and innovative Maker Space. This space is usually exclusive to students and staff at UoS so this is a unique opportunity to get involved! Also, as always there will be food!
There are only 10 spaces for this event so please only sign up if you can definitely make it. If enough attendees don’t turn up on the day we will be unable to run the session.
Deposits are £10 each to secure your place but this is refundable if you turn up to the session. If you don’t turn up you’ll lose your deposit. Eventbrite charges a small fee of around £1.50 for each ticket which is non-refundable.
WHAT IS THE MAKER SPACE?
A campus wide digital fabrication and additive manufacturing hub, the Maker Space is open to students, staff and industry partners to explore and iterate solutions to manufacturing, electronics and design challenges. The Maker Space is home to both digital fabrication technology for rapid prototyping as well as heavy duty, industrial grade machinery. All tools and machinery can be used by students across the university. Students have access to 3D printing, laser and vinyl cutters, waterjet cutting, metal additive manufacturing, CNC machining, welding, state of the art digital and optical microscopes and reverse engineering metrology instruments. to shape next steps? Will you develop solutions, make action plans, or produce something together?
The session will involve:
1. DESIGN – Using Adobe Illustrator to design your motif for the front of the light box
2. MAKE – Using our Epilog Fusion Pro laser cutter to cut out the light box structure and motif panel
3. ASSEMBLE – Assemble your light box

You will need to bring with you a black and white image file of your design for the front panel of your light box. Some examples of patterns / motifs are shown below.
